European Operating System
The Commission should let develop an European Operating System for its citizens. We can not be safe online when the source code of our operating systems are owned by companies outside of Europe like Microsoft or Apple and may include backdoors for foreign secret agencies. The development of a european operating system could be an excellent opportunity to build productive competence in Europe, create jobs and national security. As many components are already available for reuse it is not rocket science anymore to create our own operating system but it needs the financial support for quality and convenience. It's about time to end the desktop client side monopoly bottlenecks and liberate EU citizens. Operating Systems should be a free infrastructure commodity provided by the public sector like motorways etc. Europeans must be encouraged participate in the development of operating systems to build the skills and capabilities for software sovereignty and innovation.
